Snow Day Bread Machine Brioche

"Do you want to build a snowman?

Or ride our bikes around the halls?"

For our Nashville snow day, I finally bit the bullet and tested the bread machine a dear friend lent me. . .wait for it. . .three years ago.

The darn thing will apparently mix the dough, proof it, AND bake it. . . WHAT?! That was too much for me, but what fun to watch the dough mix through a little window in the machine as I watched out a bigger window for the snow to fall. By the time the rolls were done, there was a blanket of snow outside. I'm shocked how easy this was. I don't know that I'll ever buy bread again. . .

1 cup of water

3 T of milk

1 T active dry yeast

2 1/2 T sugar

1 large egg

3 cups bread flour

1/3 cup white whole wheat flour

1 tsp salt

2 1/2 T butter, softened

~ Dropped wet ingredients, then dry ingredients, then yeast, then softened butter into machine.

~ Set it on the dough setting and watched it like a kid at a car wash!

~ Preheat oven to 170 degrees, but then turned it off.

~ Pulled out dough and circled into balls, smoothing out tops and punching in ends underneath.

~ Rolls can be as large as you would like. I was able to round out 18.

~ Placed them on sprayed cookie sheets.

~ Brushed with butter and proofed in preheated off oven for 40 minutes.

~ Took out rolls and preheated oven to 400 degrees.

~ Brushed rolls with butter again.

~ Prepared another baking sheet with 1/2 cup of water in it.

~ Placed water on bottom rack, two other sheets on racks above it.

~ Baked for 15 minutes until desired brownness.

~ Could brush with butter again if desired - I didn't.

Rolled out 18.
Brushed with butter.

Proofed 40 minutes.

Finis.
